Modi Chairs Second Security Meeting Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions
PM Modi Chairs CCS Meet Second Time Since Pahalgam Attack Amid Rising Tension With Pakistan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Tuesday, marking the second such meeting since the attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that killed five Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel. This comes amidst heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the attack.
The CCS meeting, which lasted for over two hours, reportedly discussed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in light of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage. Sources suggest that the government is exploring various strategies to ensure the pilgrimage's security.
This high-level security meeting included key figures such as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.
The earlier CCS meeting, convened shortly after the Pahalgam attack on 11 August, reviewed the security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra and condemned the attack.
The attack in Pahalgam, which targeted a bus carrying ITBP personnel, has been attributed to a tire burst by officials, though investigations are still ongoing.
The incident has raised concerns about the security of the Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to conclude on 31 August. The government has emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of the pilgrims.
The rising tension between India and Pakistan adds another layer of complexity to the situation, though the official statements regarding the CCS meeting have primarily focused on the security of the Amarnath Yatra.
