Fico Debuts Furniture Collection at Milan Design Week
Fico Makes Debut With Furniture Collection Exploring Connection at Milan Design Week
Emerging furniture brand Fico debuted at Milan design week with a furniture collection, exploring how objects can foster connection. The collection features four key pieces – the Dojo chair, Amanita side table, Boletus coffee table, and Porcino dining table. Each piece utilizes a unique combination of materials and shapes to create a sense of grounding and interaction.
Designer and Fico founder, Tom Fereday, aimed to create a collection that evokes connection to nature and to each other. This is reflected in the forms of the pieces, which are inspired by organic shapes found in nature. The Dojo chair, for instance, takes cues from the curvature of mushrooms and river stones, providing both support and comfort. The Amanita table mirrors the silhouette of its namesake mushroom, while the Boletus and Porcino tables share a similar aesthetic rooted in natural forms.
Materiality plays a significant role in Fico's debut collection. The pieces feature a combination of stone, wood, and upholstery. Travertine is used for the bases of the tables, providing a strong and natural foundation. American walnut is incorporated for its rich color and texture, while bouclé and velvet upholstery offer softness and comfort. The juxtaposition of these materials brings a tactile and visual richness to the collection.
Fereday explains that the designs are meant to encourage individuals to pause and connect, whether it's connecting with nature, with others, or with oneself. The curved forms invite interaction and create a sense of intimacy, fostering a feeling of gathering and conversation. The collection was showcased as part of the Alcova exhibition during Milan design week.
